Watching Elkin With Elkin
Our most recent livestream was a great one - if you were in attendance, you’ll surely agree (we hope). We were accompanied by a big crew of our Patrons (thank you! more livestreams soon!) in getting a full breakdown of Poisonous Products, with its creator Jeremy Elkin.
This video is a stand-out favorite of ours from the beginning of the last decade, and is possibly even more impactful now than at the time of its release in 2010 . It captures a unique and special time in New York skateboarding, one where there was a premium on night sessions and many dynamics of the city’s current scene were being formed, and serves as an interesting artifact from an era where the nature of skate videos themselves was in flux.
As mentioned in a Quartersnacks post from the months following the video’s premier, this video heralded the return of montage-style videos, which had fallen out of fashion after the demise of 411. Most of what was being shared on YouTube (which wasn’t even yet a decade old!) were single parts, either from full length videos or created as one-offs.
A big thanks to all who hopped on the livestream and to Jeremy for making this all happen.
