State Series #3: Brian Panebianco | Pennsylvania
This year’s election results are not the only thing tremendously impacted by Pennsylvania. The world of skateboarding has also been shaped by the state for the last 30+ years. More recently, Brian Panebianco has been an instrumental figure in Philly through his involvement in Sabotage Productions (though the man is so humble, we doubt he would ever accept those accolades). For installment 3 of our State Series™ Brian gives his five favorites from his home state.
Bam Margera - Where do I start? Maybe I don't even have to say anything about Bam. For me when I was growing up, he was the most entertaining skateboarder. I watched him in the Toy Machine video, Tony Hawk tour, then obviously Jackass. He had me wanting to skate FDR instead of my dream spot, Love Park. Like him or hate him, he's probably the most famous skateboarder from PA.
Dylan Sourbeer - He’s from Harrisburg, moved to Philly around 2011 and started showing up to Love and City Hall where I met him. At the time I knew nothing about him except he was way better then everyone else. He filmed a part for Sabotage 3 super easily. He had so much footage for Sabotage 4 that we had to give him a full part in the promo. The same thing happened for Sabotage 5 except we just gave him two parts in the actual video. Consistent and powerful style. I would say he was the number one Love Park dude from our generation of the plaza.
Kevin Taylor - Kevin is originally from Pittsburgh but has lived in Philly forever. He’s been apart of like 3 generations of skateboarding in Philadelphia. Everything he’s done is so thorough, but the most inspiring thing to me is that he is still killing it! I think he’s 45 now and still looks so comfortable on a board. No old man style or nothin’. Gives us mid 30s guys hope that the end of our pop isn't just around the corner. Thank you KT.
Joey O’Brien- Joey is another Sabotage guy. I met this kid when he was like 10 at a DIY in Lansdale, PA called Wedgewood. He got super good fast, he ollied the love gap at age 13. Now he’s all grown up, works full time and is still one of the most talented skateboarders I know. He’s also a fuckin’ jokester. Like Goddamn, he’s fuckin’ funny. Joey’s the best.
Kerry Getz- My favorite skateboarder growing up. As a kid it blew me away seeing him skate in person at the City Hall contest in 2001. I would buy all his boards, and of course, his part in Photosynthesis was always on repeat. I feel like Kerry was one of the first quick setup guys. Suciu later took him and everyone else out.
